American Dream Coalition Conference – September 23-25th – Orlando

The future of property rights in Florida is on the agenda at the 8th Annual Preserving the American Dream Conference in Orlando, September 23-25.  With a recent ruling striking down the growth management reforms of 2009 and the threat of Amendment 4 on the ballot in November, now is the time to arm yourself with vital information and strategies for defending freedom and property rights.

“Among the highlights of this annual conference focusing on “Defending Mobility & Home Ownership” will be guest speakers:

_ Adam Babington of the Florida Chamber of Commerce and a representative supporting Amendment 4 will debate the Amendment 4 and its implications;

_ State Senator Mike Bennett speaks on the future of growth management since an activist judge overturned the reforms he sponsored in 2009;

_ Prominent regional speakers include Carol Saviak of the Coalition for Property Rights, land use attorney Cecelia Bonifay, and State Representative Chris Dorworth.

_ Nationally recognized speakers include Steven Greenhut (author of Abuse of Power: How Government Misuses Eminent Domain), Wendell Cox (War on the Dream: How Anti-Sprawl Policies Threatens Our Quality of Life),Randal O’Toole (Best Laid Plans: How Government Planning Harms Your Quality of Life, Your Pocket book and Your Future), Samuel Staley (Smarter Growth: Market-based Strategies for Land Use Planning in the 21st Century) and many others.”

This conference brings together policy experts, elected officials, business and community leaders and grassroots activists from around the country who believe the cities of the future can be built on a foundation of limited government, property rights, and free enterprise.

Statewide Septic Tank Regulation Meeting

On Thursday – Sept. 23 from   9:00am-4:30pm, Orlando Airport Marriott, the state Technical Review and Advisory Panel (TRAP), the board that advises the Florida Department of Health on septic tank rules and regulations, will be meeting and hearing the new rule governing septic tank inspections that were mandated this year by Senate Bill 550.  Critics of the proposed rule believe the increased cost of inspections and stringent new requirements will essentially require owners across the state to bear the cost of replacing currently functional tanks – with staff’s “preferred” model. This change of rule with heightened requirements is seen simply as a “back-door approach” to create the same result as the previously proposed requirement that would require all owners across the state to upgrade to the preferred system. This wholesale septic tank switch out has extraordinary economic ramifications for all septic tank owners across the state. This anti-property rights’ idea was previously pushed by staff – and supported by FDH leadership – was delayed as a result of mass public outcry and legislative actions to protect the interests of property owners.
