On October 9, 2017, FDOT held its public workshop for the Tampa Interstate Study/TampaBayNext project. The workshop included the presentation of information and alternatives being considered for the proposed improvements to Howard Franklin Bridge, I-275/SR 60 interchange, the Downtown Tampa interchange as well improvements to transit issues in Tampa. Under consideration for the Westshore area is the extension of Reo Street South to connect SR 60, the extension of Occident Street South from Cypress Street to Westshore Plaza, and the extension of Trask Street South from Cypress underneath Interstate 275.
The Interstate Study is currently scheduled to be completed in early 2019. FDOT recently acquired two properties in the Westshore Business District. However, at this time, FDOT has stopped acquiring property until future plans develop. FDOT will be holding its Public hearing for the project this November.
