FDOT Proposes New Concepts for Highway Improvements in Tampa

On Monday the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) revealed four new concepts designed to improve the downtown Tampa I-275 exchange.  Each concept includes use of express lanes.  Two of the concepts work with the existing structure whereas the other two involve complete reconstruction.

As reported in the Tampa Bay Business Journal, the concepts are part of FDOT’s Tampa Bay Next process, which is aimed at identifying a preferred alternative for highway improvements. Tampa Bay Next began after the controversial TBX plan was reset.

None of the concepts are final, and FDOT says it wants to keep an open dialogue with the community to identify the best possible approach to future highway improvements.  They expect to have a final concept approved in January 2019.
