The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT)  is preparing to invest $814 million into the design and construction of a new, 8-lane Howard Frankland Bridge from Hillsborough to Pinellas county.  Plans include eight lanes of traffic and a bike and pedestrian trail. The final version of the proposal will be released on December 10, 2018.

The new bridge is set to be the largest contract in the history of DOT’s Tampa office.  The state expects to award the bid in 2019. Construction is slated to start in 2020, with the bridge opening to traffic in 2024.
